Franklin – William Fletcher "W.F." Worrell, Jr., 81, passed away March 7, 2017 at Southlake Hospital, Clermont, FL. He was a native of Franklin and was the son of the late William Fletcher Worrell, Sr. and Dora Whitley Worrell and was also predeceased by his wife, Sandra Britt Bridgers Worrell and a son, William Russell Worrell.
Mr. Worrell attended Murfreesboro High School, graduated from Chowan College in Murfreesboro, NC and, earned a law degree from Lasalle University in 1972. He served in the US Army and the National Guard Reserve and was employed by Union Camp Corp. in 1958 and retired from Union Camp (now International Paper) in September 1993. He was a member of Southern Forest Products, New Orleans, LA , Chairman, 1982 Transportation Commission, Georgia Forestry Association, Atlanta, GA 1984-1988, American Pulpwood Association, Washington, DC 1983 – 1993, National Industrial Transportation League, Washington, DC, Florida Forestry Association, Tallahassee, FL and the Conference Board, New York, NY. He was past member of Windsor Forest Baptist Church and the Beverly Sunday School Class, Savannah, GA, past member and Deacon at Sunbeam Baptist Church, Franklin, VA and current Watch Care Member Open Door Baptist Church, Clermont, Fl. He was a Mason, Franklin Lodge #151 where he was a Past Master, Scottish Rites 32 nd Degree, Portsmouth, VA, President Franklin Shrine Club 2004, a member of the Ruritan Club in Como, NC, past member of the Sons of the Confederacy and a member of the Roanoke Chowan Shrine Club.
Survivors include his son, Gregory Alan Worrell, grandchildren, William Britt Worrell and Keely Briana Worrell and a great grandchild, Luna Bell Bashlon.
A funeral service will be held at 2PM Friday March 17, 2017 at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin with the Rev. Hoyle Green officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM Thursday at the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to Sunbeam Baptist Church. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
