Capron – Walter Wingate "Winky" Futrell, Jr., 82, beloved husband, father, brother and "PaPa," passed away February 2, 2026. A lifelong resident of Southampton County, he was the son of the late Walter Wingate Futrell Sr. and Hazel Elizabeth Scott Futrell.

Winky was a 1961 graduate of Southampton High School and the owner of Futrell's Body Shop. He was a member of Courtland Baptist Church.

Winky was an avid hunter and fisherman, a member of Newsoms Hunt Club, a founding member of Mill Swamp Longbeards, a local chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, and a longtime local dirt track racer. He was a "Jack of all Trades and a Master of Many."

Winky is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alease Radford Futrell; children, Wingate "Win" Futrell, III (Pattie), David Futrell, Belinda F. Taylor (Bobby), Keith Futrell (Wendy) and Chad Futrell; grandchildren, Lindsey Futrell, Joshua Holsclaw, Denny Taylor, Berkley Futrell, Eric Jenkins (Hailey) and Haleigh Duncan; a sister, Flora Ann Williams; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 PM Sunday, February 8, 2026, in Wright Funeral Home with Pastor Stan Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Capron Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the Newsoms Volunteer Fire Department, Courtland Volunteer Fire Deptartment, or the American Cancer Society.
