Virginia Kitchen Taylor, 89, widow of Hugh Slade "Pete" Taylor, Sr., died November 28, 2007. A native of Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late Luther Ulysses and Carrie Bryant Kitchen. With her son, Hugh, Mrs. Taylor operated Taylor's Catering. She was a 1935 graduate of Courtland High School. She was originally a member of Courtland Baptist Church and after marriage, a lifetime member of Franklin Congregational Christian Church. Her interests in life were God, her family, her church family, and helping and ministering to others. She was an active member of her church's Women's Fellowship, was a deacon, and was a Paul Harris Fellow Award recipient.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Hugh Slade Taylor, Jr., and wife, Virginia, of Carrsville; three grandchildren, Lisa Wiese and husband, Bill, of Rocky Mount, NC; Cindy Benton and husband, David, of Franklin; Michael Taylor and wife, Danielle, of Nags Head, NC; six great-grandchildren, Austin & Ashley Wiese, Chad & Emily Benton; and Justin & Kassidy Taylor; four devoted sisters-in-law, fifteen nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Mrs. Taylor was predeceased by two sisters, Martha Elizabeth Kitchen, Emily Jones Parker; and six brothers, Robert Thomas Kitchen, Floyd M. Kitchen, James U. Kitchen, H. Reginald Kitchen, Alfred Benjamin Kitchen, and John Irving Kitchen.
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the staff at Village at Wood's Edge, Courtland Health Care Center, and Southampton Memorial Hospital for their loving care and kindness.
A funeral will be conducted Friday at 11 am in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. James H. Hyatt and the Rev. Lafayette Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 pm at the funeral home and suggests memorials be made to Franklin Congregational Christian Church, 412 N. High Street, Franklin, Va. 23851, or a favorite charity.
