Boykins – Virginia Garris Pope, 87, died July 27, 2010 at the Courtland Healthcare Center. She was born in Margarettsville, NC, last surviving of nine children of the late David Mack and Maude Baugham Garris and was predeceased by her husband, Eldridge Lee Pope, and a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Pope. She was retired from Astor Nut Company and was a member of Berean Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Gladys Clements (Jimmy) of Emporia and Gracie Glover (Johnny) of Newsoms; one son, Linwood Pope (Glenda) of Emporia; eight grandchildren, Pamela King, Jimmy Clements, Jr., Stephen Clements, Robert Earl Clements, Brenda Burgess, Melissa Presson, Linwood Pope, Jr., and Charles Pope; and sixteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 pm Friday at Berean Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Alvis and the Rev. Howard Vinson officiating. Interment will follow in Beechwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm Thursday at Wright Funeral Home, Boykins, and suggest memorials be made to Berean Baptist Church, P. O.
