Franklin – Virginia Boone Carr, 93, widow of Sion Alford "S. A." Carr, Jr., died August 3, 2008 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. She was born December 21, 1914 in Wallace, NC, a daughter of the late Ella Hall and George M. Boone.
A member of Franklin Baptist Church since 1934, she and her husband were instrumental in establishing and maintaining the Memorial Garden there for many years. Family life was important to her, and she loved her yard and her home which she delighted in decorating for every occasion. She enjoyed a good hand of bridge with friends, watching Lawrence Welk, and in years past, a good historic novel.
Left to cherish her memory are three children, Judith Carr McLemore (Harvey), Ann Carr Stephens, and Sion A. Carr, III, (Sally), all of Franklin. Son-in-law, Robert H. Stephens preceded her. Her four grandchildren, who lovingly called her "Mem" are
Alyce M. Collins (Roscoe) of Oklahoma, Blake McLemore (Liesl) of Roanoke,
Stephanie S. Hazelwood (Mark), of Chesapeake, Jennifer S. Faulkner (Jeff) of Roanoke. She had ten great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings are R. H. Boone (Gladys) of Raleigh, NC, Howard Boone (Jane) of Franklin, Mary Graham Monette of Albany, GA, and Loyce B. Floyd (Dan) of Charleston, SC. Three brothers and two sisters preceded her.
A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday at 10 am at Poplar Spring Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. A. Richard Childress and the Rev. Sharon James officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday (today) from 7 to 8:30 pm at Wright Funeral Home and suggests remembrances be made to the Franklin Baptist Church Memorial Garden, 208 North High Street, Franklin, VA. 23851, or a charity of choice.
