Severn, N.C. – Virginia Prince Barkley, 83, went to be with the Lord November 2, 2007. She was born in Southampton County, Va., a daughter of the late Eppa Beale Prince, Sr. and Bessie Drewry Prince. Upon her graduation from Longwood College, she taught for approximately ten years in Waverly, Franklin, Oceana, and Alexandria, Va. She was a faithful member of Severn Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Joseph Welford Barkley; two sons, Jody Barkley and wife, Lisa, of Ahoskie, and Bruce Barkley and wife, Cindy, of Holly Springs; one sister, Elizabeth P. Barnes of Severn; and three grandchildren, Meredith, Kathleen, and Boone Barkley. Mrs. Barkley was predeceased by two brothers, Eppa B. Prince, Jr., and George Prince.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p. m. Monday at Severn Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Hogan and the Rev. John Dean officiating. Burial will follow in the Severn Cemetery.
