Franklin – Violet Marie Stewart "Vi" Dentler, 90, passed away on January 20, 2019. Born March 7, 1928 in Waterbury, CT, Vi was the only child of the late Earle Stewart and Anna Winslow Stewart. She graduated from Wilby High School in Waterbury in 1945 and from Perry School of Business in 1947. Vi was predeceased in 1987 by her husband of 34 years, Eric Michael Dentler. They were married in 1953 and settled in Suffolk before moving to Franklin in 1955.
Vi worked as secretary for Scovill Manufacturing and Federated Funds, both in Waterbury, CT. She then moved to Washington D.C. with several good friends, and worked for the Air Force in the Pentagon for two years. Vi worked for the Franklin Redevelopment and Housing Authority for 24 years, as secretary, administrative assistant, and executive director until her retirement in 1992. Vi was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Franklin from 1955 to present where she became the first woman elected to serve on the vestry. Vi volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, the Alzheimer's Association, Southampton Memorial Hospital Hospice and gift shop, the Franklin library, and her church.
Vi is survived by her four children, Stewart Dendtler of Petersburg, VA, Michael Dentler of Franklin, VA, Kaj Dentler and wife Debbie of Leesburg, VA, and Karen Dentler Braun and husband Chris of Bath, PA. She was the grandmother of nine beautiful grandchildren, Erika Dendtler, Ashley Rankin, Kris Dendtler, Kevin Dendtler, Eric Dentler, Danielle Dentler, Sarah Braun, Eric Braun and Allison Dendtler and the great grandmother of Camden and Grant.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Friday, January 25, 2019 in Emmanuel Episcopal Church with the Rev. Ben R. Duffey officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery. A reception will be held following the service at The Village at Woods Edge. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 PM in Wright Funeral Home and suggests in lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church, P.O.
