Thomas Clark Powers, of Richmond, Virginia, died on March 28th following a long battle with kidney disease and recent complications from pneumonia.

Raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Tom excelled academically, earning a full merit scholarship to attend military prep school at McCallie. He later earned a Navy ROTC scholarship to Georgia Tech, where he was inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma honor society, joined the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, and graduated in 1965 with a degree in industrial engineering. Tom went on to earn his MBA from the University of North Florida in 1974.

Known for his professionalism and trustworthiness, Tom built a strong, wide‑ranging career as an executive, serving a number of companies and spending his final 29 years of work with Southern States Cooperative in Richmond, Virginia.

Tom is survived by his wife of 35 years, Terri Hubbard Powers; children David A. Powers (Michele) of Richmond, Virginia, and Maria K. Powers of Durham, North Carolina; grandchildren Ashley and Kristin; sisters-in-law Lynne Rabil (Frank) and Sandra Edwards and brother-in-law Harvey Hubbard; and several nephews and nieces, including Beth Swann, whose steadfast support and love meant so much to Tom and Terri after his brother died and throughout Tom's illness. He is also survived by former wife Jerry Williams, mother of David and Maria. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Meryl and Grace Powers and his brother David S. Powers.

Tom will be remembered for his humble nature, wicked sense of humor, and cute dimpled smile. A Renaissance man, he was endlessly curious about how things worked, was a skilled craftsman and a certified Master Gardener who took pride in keeping a beautiful, well-tended yard. Tom was always willing to lend a helping hand.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 16th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Bliley's Funeral Home at 3801 Augusta Avenue, Richmond, VA. A family-only graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 18th at 1:00pm at Rosemont Cemetery in Sedley, VA, with Rev. Elizabeth von Trapp Walker presiding.
