FRANKLIN

Obituary

Franklin, VA – Thomas Addison Morgan, Jr., 80, passed away August 25, 2023 in Southampton Memorial Hospital.  Born in Richmond, Va, Tom was a life-long resident of Franklin.  He was the son of the late Dr. "T.A." Thomas Addison Morgan, Sr.  and Margaret Ellis Morgan.

Tom was a graduate of Franklin High School (Class of 1962) and Frederick College. He continued his studies at the University of Miami, focusing on Religion and Science.  He served six years in the VA National Guard and was a former employee of Eggleston, Tidewater Occupational Center, Western Tidewater Community Services Board, and Schewel's Furniture Company.  He was a lifelong member of Franklin Baptist Church and was widely known for his insightful, no-holds-barred, critical thinking style, which continuously kept his good friend and debate partner, Dr. Charles Qualls, on guard.

His entire life, he was recognized by his kind, caring demeanor and genuine compassion for all those he encountered.  He was always known for his chiseled physique and muscularity, once being described with the terrifying similarity as that of an "Angry, Charging Silver Back Gorilla" after the destruction of his beloved and meticulously carved pumpkin.  He was an amazing husband, an inspirational father, the proudest of grandfathers and a true friend to many.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, and the absolute love of his life, Peggy Parham Morgan; their two sons, Christopher A. Morgan of Virginia Beach, VA and Robert Aaron Morgan (Christine) of Franklin, VA; a sister, Margaret "Pat" Johnson (Bill) of Williamsburg, VA; a brother, Daniel "Danny" Morgan (Sharon) of Palmetto, FL; ten grandchildren, Gabi, Lucius, Triston, Julian, Karlyn, James, Zeke, Henry, Charlotte, and Esther; and a large extended family.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2PM Tuesday, August 29, 2023 in Franklin Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Gibson officiating.  Visitation will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall.  The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Franklin Baptist Church.
