Nags Head – Terry Johnson Dixon passed away Monday, June 19, 2023, at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

He was predeceased by his faithful companion of 18 years, Taco, who rode shotgun around the beach with Terry visiting his favorite haunts.

Terry was born July 20, 1943, in Greenville, NC, and was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He had many different careers until he settled in commercial real estate development with Bill Clark Homes in Greenville.

He was man of few words, but when he did speak, people listened. He always had a funny story to tell and loved to make people laugh, finding humor in ordinary situations. He had a generous and kind heart. If you were lucky enough to be with him at an establishment, he picked up the tab and was a generous tipper.

Terry had a mathematical mind with a head for numbers and his greatest passion was betting on Thoroughbred horses and NFL football. He was also a huge East Carolina University fan and enjoyed sport fishing with his buddies.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carole Sykes of the home; a son, Shay Dixon (Ana) of Costa Rica; daughter Kelly Dixon (Tommy) of Ayden, NC; grandchildren Alejandro, Zoe Shay and Ava Kate; his dog, Apple and a host of friends.

To honor his memory, donations can be made to Sam and Omie's Memorial Fund through the North Carolina Community Foundation or the Corolla Wild Horse Fund, Inc., or bet on a long shot. There will be no service at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Wright Funeral Home in Franklin, Va., is handling arrangements.
