Franklin – Teressa Brooke Powell Michels, 39, began her rest in the arms of God on August 21, 2007, after her battle with cancer. A native of Suffolk, she was a dental assistant for Dr. Winn Browne, and more recently, she sold Kirby vacuums with her husband. Brooke was a 1986 graduate of Southampton High School and a member of Franklin Church of God.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, David Allen Michels; one daughter, Katherine Bailey; her parents, Charles and Teressa Griffin Holt of Courtland; three step-daughters, Faith, Hope, and Emily Michels; two step-sons, Chris and Shawn Michels; a sister, Lisa Holt Lance; two brothers, James "Bo" Powell and Derrick Holt and wife, Beth; maternal grandparents, Roy and Golden Griffin of Franklin; paternal grandmother, Lucille Powell of Suffolk; aunts and uncles, Anita and J. W. Ballard, Sandy and Roy Griffin, Jr., Ann Sanford, Patsy and Frank Watson, Carol and Milton Billups, Donna and Wilson Jones; nieces and nephews, Laura Ann Henderson, Bailey Holt, Cody and Dustin Lance, Randy, Michael, and Charles Powell; and many special cousins. Brooke was predeceased by an infant son, an uncle, Carl Holt; and grandparents, James A. Powell, and James P. and Eunice Mae Holt.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 am Friday at the Franklin Church of God with the Rev. James Ashby officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 pm at Wright Funeral Home and other times at the home of Charles and Teressa Holt, 22500 Captain John Road, Courtland.
