Boykins – Sylvia Powell Edwards, 81, widow of Gene Andrew Edwards, passed away October 24, 2021 in East Pavilion.  Born on March 1, 1940, she was the daughter of the late William Hugh Powell, Jr. and Eloise Hill Powell.

Sylvia was a 1957 graduate of Southampton High School and attended East Carolina University.  She worked part time for the Boykins Post Office and was a full time homemaker.

She was a devoted life-long member of Boykins Baptist Church where she served as the organist for 50 years, church historian, Deacon, Trustee, and numerous other roles in the church.

Sylvia was a loving, compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.  Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great grandchildren and you could find her at any of her grandkid's events.  She was dedicated to helping others and her memory will be cherished by many.

Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Gene Andrew "Drew" Edwards, Jr. (Kathy Jo) and Gregory Scott "Greg" Edwards (Teresa); six grandchildren, Gene Andrew Edwards III, Cody Kirkland Edwards (Janie), Ann Jackson Edwards, Seth Landon Edwards (Crystal), William Hugh Edwards, and Ethan Patrick Edwards; and three great grandchildren, Britton Marie Fitzwater, Landon Scott Edwards, and Easton Charles Edwards.

Graveside Services will be private and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date.  The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boykins Baptist Church or Boykins Fire and Rescue.
