Obituary

Franklin – Swann Burgess Bradshaw Broocke, 93, passed away February 18, 2026 at The Village at Woods Edge.  Born and raised in Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late Gholie Seward Burgess and Maria Elizabeth "Lizzie" Newsome Burgess.  She was also predeceased by her first husband, Thomas Irvin Bradshaw; her second husband, Robert Marion Broocke; sisters, Helen Beatrice Burgess and Sally B. Francis; and brothers, Roger, Bill, Lloyd "Happy", Raymond, McCoy, Emerson, and Earl Burgess.

Swann was a graduate of Courtland High School and was a secretary for Williams Chrysler Plymouth from 1964 to 1980.  She was a dispatcher for Southampton County Sheriff's Office from 1980 to 1990.  Swann was a member of High Street United Methodist Church and longtime member of Vincent's Grove United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish her memory are three sons, Mark T. Bradshaw (Carol), Timothy S. Bradshaw (Becky), and Dana S. Bradshaw (Toni); two sisters, Ann B. Davis (Wayne) and Carolyn Arnsberger (Jerry); a brother, Wayne Burgess; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Burgess, and Cecilia Burgess; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2PM Tuesday, February 24, 2026 in Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Hank Teague officiating.  Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and suggests that memorial donations be made to The Village at Woods Edge discretionary fund.
