Obituary

Ivor – Sue Neave Grizzard, 77, peacefully passed away August 21, 2025 in her home surrounded by those she loved.  Born in Raiford Memorial Hospital on August 12, 1948, Sue was the daughter of the late Edward and Frances Neave and sister to the late Kurt Neave.  She is survived by her siblings to whom she's been a second mama for all their lives and is also survived by her children, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was also known as "Mama Sue" to all the young people who came through her doors and who have loved her to the end.

Left to cherish her memory are three children Rusty Holland, Ben Holland, and Meg Holland, a sister, Melissa Darden (Parker), and a brother, Phil Neave (Pam).

Sue had a heart that knew no bounds.  Her ever present smile welcomed everyone into her home.  She was always there for those who needed a place to feel loved and safe.  Sue practiced the Gospel that she read daily, and was always generous with her talent of hospitality.

Sue was a birthright Quaker and member of Corinth Friends Meeting.  While her Alzheimer's Disease may have affected her memory, she continued to occupy that back bench and contribute to worship services.

For most of her adult life Sue worked in the grocery business, first with Winn Dixie then Farm Fresh.  She trained many young people who today still remember her and thank her for "raising them" in their first jobs.  She also volunteered with Windsor Volunteer Rescue Squad in its early days, being one of the first female members.  After her late husband Robert suffered a debilitating stroke, she studied and earned her CNA certificate to better care for him and then for others.

The family expresses their gratitude to the ladies who helped her to the end: Betsy, Tehya, Arlean and the staff of Lake Prince Hospice.  A special hug of thanks goes to her sweet granddaughter Valentine who vigilantly stayed by her side until the end.

A funeral service after the manner of Friends will be held Sunday, August 24, 2025 at 2PM at Corinth Friends Meeting.  The family asks that those attending wear something red in honor of Sue.  It was her favorite color.  Burial will follow at Ivor Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made in Sue's memory to Corinth Friends Meeting.
