Courtland – Sidney Thomas Williams, 81, died February 4, 2008. Born in North Carolina and reared in Capron, he was a son of the late Arthur Grover and Fannie Mae Joyner Williams. Sidney was also predeceased by his wife, Shirley Vaughan Williams, a sister, Daphne Williams V. Dunn and a brother, Arthur Clifton Williams. An Army veteran of WW II, Sidney was retired as a foreman in the sheet finishing department of Union Camp Corporation after 28 years. After retirement, he farmed. He was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Nancy W. Gregory and husband, Rob, of Columbia, VA.; three grandsons, Michael, Matthew and Mason Gregory; two sisters, Erma Williams Joyner of Capron, Leona Williams Davis and husband, Lewis Holmes, of Courtland, two brothers, Dr. David C. Williams and wife, Flora Ann, of Richmond, Gene W. Williams and wife, Topsy, of Courtland; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 pm Thursday at Courtland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
