Como, NC – Sidney Earl Long, II, 71, passed away on January 31, 2023 in his home with family by his side.  Born in Portsmouth, VA, he was the son of the late Sidney Earl Long and Fannie Lou Flythe Long.

Sidney was a retired Sergeant from the Virginia Army National Guard with 22 years and 7 months of service.  He was also a retired Food Director with the State of Virginia with 28 years of service.  He enjoyed deep sea fishing and raising chickens.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Judy Spivey Long; a daughter, Shannon Beltrami (Joey); two sons, Chad Ward (Lisa) and Sidney E. Long, III (Gabrielle); a sister, Jo Culpepper (Britt); three grandchildren, Brandon Ward, Keira Beltrami, and Mia Beltrami; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 11AM Saturday, February 4, 2023 in Wright Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Deacon and Mr. Paul Flythe officiating.  A reception will follow the service in the Franklin Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.  The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Liberty Home Care and Hospice, 2334 South 41 ^st Street, Wilmington, NC 28403 or Buckhorn Baptist Church in Como, NC.
