Obituary

Franklin- Shirley Brown Foster, 89, passed away April 14, 2022. Shirley was born in Nansemond County. He was predeceased by his parents Hester Brown Foster and Dolly Mae Hedgepeth Foster, his wife, Clara Ann Scott Foster, a grandson, Derek Brown Foster, a great granddaughter, Emmilynn Vandiford, three sisters, Margie Willman, Elsie Cutchins, Lorine Cutchins and a brother, Cleveland Foster.

Shirley was retired from the City of Franklin as a Line Supervisor in the Electrical Department and an original member of the Franklin Fire and Rescue Squad. He was a member of Franklin Congregational Christian Church and Zuni Hunt Club.

Survivors include two sons, Ronnie Lee Foster (Margaret), and Michael Scott Foster (Stacie), three sisters Virgie Byrum, Geraldine Williams (J.R.), and Janice Byrum (Richard), five grandchildren, Daryl Foster (Nikki), Chris Foster Boxley (Bishop), Stuart Doughtie, Jr., Curtis Doughtie (Stephanie), Michael Vandiford (Brittney), eleven great-grandchildren, Reed, Ryder, Maverick, Jaden, Brooklyn, Brody, Hunter, Caroline, Ellie, Wells, and Raylen, eleven nephews and four nieces.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 20, 2022 in Wright Funeral Home with Rev. James H. Hyatt, Jr. officiating. The burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk.  The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 19, 2022 in the funeral home from 6 to 8 P.M. and suggests memorial donations be made to any favorite charity.
