Shelby Edwards Whitby, 79, of Drewryville, passed away February 17, 2018. She was born in the Little Texas area of Southampton County, a daughter of the late Willie Faton and Fannie Taylor Edwards. Her husband of 60 years, Raymond L."Pop" Whitby, also predeceased her as did a brother, Taylor Edwards, and two sisters, Louise Stanback and Margie Pernell. Mrs. Whitby retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Norma Jean Gibson (David); her son, Dennis R. Whitby (Alice); two sisters, Joyce Clement (Ed) and Ruby Pitt; three grandchildren, Jonathan K. "Buck" Whitby, Jennifer D. Gibson and Wyatt T. Whitby and four great-grandchildren, Kelly, Justin, JoAnna and Darby.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2PM, Tuesday, February 20, 2018 in Greensville Memorial Cemetery, Emporia, with the Rev. David Everett officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-7:30 PM at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin and suggests memorials be made to the Drewryville Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 125, Drewryville, VA 23844. The family would like to express their appreciation to all the caregivers for the care they provided their mother.
