Obituary

Drewryville - Shanna Rebecca Long, affectionately known to her beloved partner as "Shanna Banana," was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on December 29, 1977. From a young age, Shanna radiated kindness and empathy, qualities that defined her life and the legacy she leaves behind.

Shanna's world revolved around her beautiful daughter, Kristie. She was the light of her life, her pride, her joy—her sunshine and angel. Kristie will forever carry the love and lessons imparted by her mother, who treasured every moment with her. Shanna's heart also beat in unison with David Reedy, her partner, her person, the love of her life, and kindred spirit. Together, they created a life full of love, laughter, and shared dreams, tending to the farm, nurturing their plants, and caring for their beloved animals. David's children—Nicole, Hayden, and Hannah—were also joys in Shanna's life, each holding a special place in her heart.

A true helper in every sense, Shanna dedicated her career to the medical profession, particularly in home health and end-of-life care. Her selfless and empathetic nature made her a beacon of comfort and compassion for those in their most vulnerable moments. Shanna's ability to offer care and dignity to others was a testament to her unwavering belief in the importance of treating everyone equally and with kindness.

Beyond her professional life, Shanna was an avid gardener with a remarkable green thumb. She found peace and fulfillment in nurturing both her outdoor and indoor plants, creating vibrant spaces that reflected her deep connection to nature. Whether she was feeding the cows on the farm or whipping up a new recipe in the kitchen, Shanna was happiest when serving others. Her creative spirit shone through in the quilts she sewed with love, each stitch a tangible expression of her care for those she held dear.

Shanna was also a devoted member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, where she found purpose and joy in helping the elderly. Her loyalty and kindness were evident in every interaction, and her sense of humor brought light to even the most challenging situations.

She adored animals, finding peace in their presence and sharing her life with her beloved dog, Winston, and her cat, Twiggy, who were more than pets—they were her companions.

Shanna leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and a life lived in service to others. She will be deeply missed by her daughter Kristie, her partner David, her brother Terry James Wickham Jr., her nieces and nephews Nathan Patrick Taylor Gessler, Alexander J. Wickham, Zackary A. Wickham, Nadia E. Wickham, Isabella J. Wickham, Chrisinda K. Wickham, and Shanna E. Wickham, and her best friends Donna Myrick and Jenny Reedy.  Her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her to live with the same selflessness, empathy, and unwavering kindness that she embodied every day of her life. Shanna is finally reunited with her mother Cynthia R. McGuffin and her grandmother Rebecca Y. Lee.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2PM Sunday, August 25, 2024 in Thomas Memorial Baptist Church.  To all of those attending, please wear vibrant colors to match the vibrant spirit of Shanna.  Please send flowers to Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, 23006 Drewry Rd., Drewryville, VA 23844
