Newsoms – Sandra Ellis Rountree, 74, widow of the late Guy "Buddy" Pope Rountree Jr. went to be with the Lord on January 13, 2024. Born on September 25, 1949, in Southampton County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Howard Lee Ellis and Bernice Worrell Ellis. She is also predeceased by sister, Joyce Ellis Bradford, and granddaughter, Mallory Elizabeth Wright.

Sandra was a 1967 graduate of Southampton High School, a member of the Newsoms United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's Club. Following her marriage to Buddy, she spent many years at home raising her children. She later went to work as a secretary at Wheat First Securities, in Franklin, VA for 15 years. She then served as a teacher's assistant at Hunterdale Elementary School and Meherrin Elementary School. Before her lengthy battle with Alzheimer's, Sandra enjoyed yard work, spending time with her four grandchildren, and relaxing with a good book at her family beach home.

She is survived by her children and daughter-in-law, Laura Wright and Brian and Holly Rountree; and her beloved grandchildren Mason and Madison Wright and Taylor and Hunter Rountree.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2PM Tuesday, January 16, 2024, in Newsoms United Methodist Church. Burial will follow the service in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2PM prior to the service and suggest that memorial donations be made to Newsoms United Methodist Church.
