Branchville – Samuel Elton "Dick" Whitley, 85, died September 5, 2010 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. Dick was born in Nash County, NC and was a retired sawer. He was predeceased by his wives, Paraleigh Joyner Whitley and Ellen Drewett Whitley, a sister, Janie Perry, and three brothers, Johnny, Bill, and Piggy Whitley. He was a former member of the Branchville Town Council and was a member of Margarettsville Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Brenda W. Mashtare; a step-daughter, Tammy Flythe; three grandchildren, Jo Ann Bennett-Worthy, Hillary Flythe and Russell Flythe; four great-grandchildren, Amberleigh Bennett, Brittany Bennett, Alex Worthy, and Chelsea Worthy; one sister, Alma Moss; and two brothers, Wilmer and Buck Whitley.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 am Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Wright Funeral Home, Boykins. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Nashville, NC. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 6350 Center Drive, Norfolk, Va. 23502.
