Obituary

Williamsburg, VA – Sally MacLellan Councill, 93, widow of Edward Winslow "Bill" Councill, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2017 at her home in Williamsburg Landing. Mrs. Councill was born in Minneapolis, MN and grew up in Bethlehem, PA. She was a daughter of the late Lee Leslie and Irma Baker MacLellan and sister to Priscilla M. Foster and Janet M. Clark. She was a graduate of Swarthmore College where she was former president of the student government and elected to the Phi Beta Kappa. Mrs. Councill had been a resident of Williamsburg since 1993 and had been a former resident of the Washington DC area for 37 years. She was a member of the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church and had been an elder in the Presbyterian Church USA since 1973. Mrs. Councill was active in community affairs through volunteering throughout her life including serving as a member of The Junior League of both Richmond, VA and Washington, DC.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Diana Councill Sweeney and husband Michael of Charlotte, NC, and granddaughters, Leigh Sweeney Teague and husband Scott and Kerry Michelle Sweeney and two great grandchildren, Logan Scott Teague and Carson Leigh Teague and many special nieces and nephews. Through the Sidwell Friends American Field Service Chapter, the Councill family hosted exchange student (Brazilian "daughter"), Rosa Maria Albuquerque.

A graveside funeral will be held at 1:30 PM Friday November 24, 2017 in Poplar Spring Cemetery on North High Street in Franklin, VA. A memorial service will be held at 1 PM Friday December 1, 2017 in Williamsburg Landing. The Rev. Harold McKeithen will officiate both services. Memorial Donations may be made to the Williamsburg Landing Benevolence Fund. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin has charge of arrangements. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
