Franklin – Robert Rudolph "Bobby" Edwards, 79 died July 20, 2010 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. He was born in Murfreesboro, NC, a son of the late Reuben B. and Julia Vinson Edwards and was predeceased by his first wife, Wanda Jean Griffin Edwards. Bobby was a former self-employed barber, Home Benificial Life Insurance agent, Southampton County Deputy Sheriff, employee of Parker Oil Company, and former attendant at Purviance Funeral Home. Bobby, a former resident of Boykins, was a Navy veteran of the Korean conflict and a charter member of the Boykins Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad. He was a graduate of the Crater Criminal Justice Academy and a member of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nancy B. Edwards; son, Bruce Edwards (Sandy) of Franklin; two granddaughters, Kimberly Edwards of Cary, NC and Megan Edwards of Franklin; stepson, Duane Tucker (Joanna); two step-granddaughters, Kyla and Canyon Tucker, all of Bayfield, CO; daughter, Debbie Jenkins (John); two grandsons, Daniel and Andrew Jenkins, all of Franklin; one brother, Wayne Edwards (Linda) of Wilmington, NC; an aunt, Pearl Bennett of Murfreesboro, NC; and several cousins.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 am Friday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. James H. Hyatt, Jr. officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home and other times at the residence. Memorials may be made to the Franklin Congregational Christian Church, 412 N.
