Carrsville - Robert "Robbie" Ennis Powell, Sr, 64, passed away on February 19, 2021 in his home surrounded by his family.  Robbie was born August 20, 1956 at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Robbie was predeceased by his parents, Carl C. and Elizabeth W. Powell and survived by his two sisters Carlene Echols and Lisa Perry.  Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 43 years, Rhonda, and his emotional support dog, Calli Grace, and their three children Tori Whitley (Chad), Little Rob Powell (Cassie), and Lindsey Smith (JC).  Robbie dedicated his life to his seven grandchildren CJ, Emma, Eden, Jackson, Logan, Connor, and Charlotte.

Robbie was the definition of a family man.  He devoted his life to his wife, children, and grandchildren.  The greatest pleasure for him was having his entire family together, no matter what the reason may be.  Robbie worked at Union Camp/International Paper in the Wood Yard and later in the Bleach Plant until the mill's closure.  Robbie continued his dad's roofing business, a skill that he passed down to his son to continue.  Robbie spent a lot of his time enjoying sports; watching, playing, and coaching.  All that knew Robbie knew of his intense love for the Washington Redskins and the love of attending a football game.  His competitive spirit will be undoubtedly missed by his Fantasy Football buddies. Robbie enjoyed to travel however the Outer Banks was his favorite destination. Robbie's ferocity for life, competitive nature, mischievous smile and unconditional love from his whole heart will forever be with his family for their whole lives.

A special thanks to; Dr. Daniel Atienza, Virginia Oncology, Dr. Gwynn Long, Duke Transplant Oncology, Dr. Kenneth Anderson, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Dr. Eben Lichteman, UNC Oncology, and his niece Marie Johnston, RN Virginia Oncology, who dedicated the last five years to his medical care.

On September 11, 2018, Robbie received a gift of life in the form of a kidney transplant from Durial Joyner.  This gift allowed Robbie the freedom to be without dialysis for the last two and half years of his life while still battling Multiple Myeloma.  Durial's selfless gift will always be cherished by Robbie's family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Wright Funeral Home in Franklin, VA.  The service will also be streamed via Facebook under Wright Funeral's page.
