Obituary

Franklin, VA – Richard Frederick "Dick" Schmidt, 83, passed away September 6, 2020 in Southside Regional Medical Center.  Born on April 7, 1937, in Canton, Ohio, he was a son of the late Edwin Christian Schmidt and Adele Rachert Schmidt.

After spending 25 years in Granville, Ohio and 25 years in Nags Head, North Carolina, Dick and Jeannie settled in Franklin.  He served in the Army where he obtained the rank of First Lieutenant.  Returning to the United States from his tour of duty in Baumholder, Germany, Dick began his career as a Special Agent in the FBI. Later he became a partner with Mayer, Hurd, and Tingly, and he also practiced law as a sole practitioner, helping people with joyous adoptions and heartfelt bankruptcies. He retired as General Council for Rax Restaurants.  Dick was a graduate of Mercersburg Academy, Dartmouth College and received a Juris Doctor Degree in Law from Western Reserve University.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 55 years Donna Jean "Jeannie" Schmidt, a daughter Ingrid Schmidt (Adam Stone) of Annapolis, MD, a son Richard F. Schmidt, Jr. (Catherine) of Painter, VA, one brother Edwin John Schmidt (Elyce), and two grandchildren Jacob Hart Stone and Isaac "Zak" Stone.
