Midland, NC – Richard Thomas Sawyer, aged 77, residing in Midland, NC passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023.

Richard, born on September 7, 1945, grew up in Gates County, NC.  He is survived by his wife, Pat, his son, Heath, his daughter-in-law, Heather and his granddaughter, Hannah, as well as his sister, Ann Eure (Carlton) and brothers, Billy (Theresa) and Donnie, brother-in-law, Bobby Chappell, and sister-in-law, Sandy Sawyer, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great nieces. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Louise and John Craig Sawyer, his brother, Agrippa Sawyer and his sister, Joan Chappell.

Richard worked as a mechanical contractor in the paper pulp industry in a career that moved him from Virginia, to Washington State, to Texas, to Florida and back to Virginia.  Richard spent his retirement enjoying being GiDad and spending time with his family in Midland, tinkering on his land and giving treats to the neighboring dogs.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Wright Funeral Home and Crematory in Franklin, VA on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 2:00pm. Following the service, a burial service for family and friends will take place at Southampton Memorial Gardens. Richard's family will host a reception at The Two Sisters (205 South Main Street) immediately following the burial service to share memories of Richard.  In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County.
