Richard Holloman
Jernigan, Jr.
Apr 23, 1970 — Feb 22, 2026
Courtland
Courtland–Richard "Richie" Holloman Jernigan Jr., age 55, passed away at his home on February 22, 2026. He was the son of the late Richard "Sweets" Holloman Jernigan, Sr. and Julia Peele.
Born on April 23, 1970 and raised in Franklin, he was a 1988 graduate of Franklin High School. He became a police officer at the Franklin Police Department shortly after graduation, where he worked for six years.
He is survived by his sons Bradley Jernigan (Miranda) and Nicholas Jernigan (Jackson Fox), his fiance Nikki Miller, his sisters, Debbie Jackson (Mike) and Elaine Umphlette (Brian), his bonus daughters Kalli Britt (Charles Jeffries), Chloe Britt, and Zaine Miller (Blake Chavis), and his three beloved dogs Remi, Davis, and Lacy.
He was a man of many talents and occupations. He was most currently a delivery driver for Liles Distribution Company. While he may have counted down the days to his retirement, he always said how he enjoyed the drives, even if it took him hours around Virginia and North Carolina in one day—especially then. He would come home with pictures of mountains and lakes, funny signage, and other sights he saw or stories about encounters he had.
He was a man that appreciated unbearably spicy food, a cold one to wash it down, and a bingeable television show. Known in the house for grabbing strange ingredients that left everyone questioning what he was concocting, yet somehow always made someone's new favorite meal. He loved cooking and always made more than anyone could eat—a trait he got from his father—so he always ended up sharing with the neighbors, coworkers, or anyone he could pawn the extra off on. His most famous dish was his Brunswick stew, also something he inherited from his father.
A visitation will be held at 1pm with the memorial service following at 2pm on Friday, February 27, 2026 at Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Preston Everett officiating.
