Obituary

Franklin – Richard Evans Copas, 83, passed away September 14, 2023 in Chippenham Hospital.  Born in Manchester, Ohio, he was a son of the late Clement Cloe Copas and Edna Florence Evans Hale.  He was also predeceased by his first wife, Nancy Grisham; three sisters, Betty Wyne, Della Royce and Esther Dunlap; two brothers, John Copas and Donald Grisham; and a grandchild, Maggie Stickle.

Richard was a graduate of St. Leo's College and a retired Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy with 30 years and 18 days of service.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Vera Blythe Copas; two daughters, Elizabeth Stickle (Hugh) of Virginia Beach and Susan Moon of Chesapeake; two step-children, Stevie L. Ezzell (Nancy) of Courtland and Vanessa M. Pair (Eddie) of Emporia; and grandchildren, Hugh, Brackan, Christianna, Nancy Jo, Cody, Kyle, Stevie Jr., Tyler, Savannah, Michael, Caine, Ashby, Jacob, Seamaeya, Trinity, Vera Katherine, and Forrest; and eight great grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11AM Tuesday, September 19, 2023 in Wright Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Kidd officiating.  Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to Sedley Baptist Church or any favorite charity.
