Gates, NC – Richard Thomas Cannatella, 83, passed away December 16, 2021 in Sentara Obici Hospital.  He was born on November 1, 1938 in New York, NY to the late Gaetano Cannatella and Lucy Treffi Stamile and was also predeceased by a half-sister, Paula Mackin.

Richard was a Navy Veteran and a Boring Machine Operator.  Along with his wife, they rescued many dogs and cats over the years.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 39 years, Marcella Ann Slawinski Cannatella; a brother, Thomas Cannatella; a half-sister, Joyce Ben; half-brothers, Bobby, Danny, and Gary; and many nieces and nephews.

A private burial will occur in Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY at a later date.
