Como, NC — Rebecca Flythe Whitley, affectionately known as "Bec," age 78, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, in her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born and raised in North Carolina, Rebecca was the daughter of the late Americus Vespucious Flythe, Jr. and Meredith Ricks Flythe. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Wallace Douglas Whitley, Sr. "Big Doug", with whom she shared a deep and inseparable bond.

Rebecca had an intense love for her family, especially her husband and sons. She and Big Doug were true partners in life, sharing adventures and experiences side by side. From learning to scuba dive to deep sea fishing trips with Big Doug and their boys, she embraced life fully and without hesitation, always happiest when her family was close.

A hardworking and dedicated woman, Rebecca spent many years in the propane gas industry and retired from a career she took great pride in. Later in life, she chose to return to work, a reflection of her drive, independence, and desire to stay active and engaged. Her strong work ethic and determination were evident in all that she did.

Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. Rebecca took great joy in simply being wherever they were, whether celebrating milestones or spending quiet time together. She was a constant presence in their lives, offering love, support, and pride in all they did.

Bec also loved the outdoors and found peace in tending to her yard and flowers, making sure her fishpond was always just right. She treasured time spent with her sisters and friends, enjoying trips to the casino together, shopping excursions, and meals shared over laughter and conversation.

Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Wallace Douglas Whitley, Jr. (LeighAnn) and Chad Everett Whitley (Tori); two sisters, Diane Gray (Glen) and Joyce Sumner (Charlie Bruce); one brother, Ricky Flythe (Vicky); five grandchildren, Mandy (Brian), Wallace D. Whitley III, C.J. Whitley, Emma Whitley, and Jackson Whitley; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Wright Funeral Home, officiated by Josh Morris.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Como Fire Department.  Rebecca's life was defined by love—love for her family, her home, and the people who shared her journey. Her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched and the memories held close by those who loved her most.
