Obituary

Franklin – Raymond Hurley "R.H." Bradshaw, 86, passed away on September 24, 2014 at East Pavilion. Born in Southampton County, he was a son of the late Rufus Hurley and Florence Bryant Bradshaw. Mr. Bradshaw was a graduate of Courtland High School and was a Merchant Marine. After high school, he worked at Curtiss Bay Towing Corporation for four years and in 1952 started working for Union Camp Corporation and retired as a Clerk in the Receiving Department after 36 years of service. After retirement, he lovingly cared for his dear wife, Doris, who suffered from Alzheimer's Disease and devoted his time to any kind of yard work. He was known locally as the "Yard Man" a phrase that was on his license plate of his green Ford pickup truck. Mr. Bradshaw was predeceased by his wife of 55 years and the apple of his eye, Doris Holcombe Bradshaw; a brother, Charles Wesley Bradshaw, Sr. and a sister, Edith Marie Bradshaw.

Survivors include a step-son, Richard C. Edwards and his wife, Linda, of Sedley; a niece, Connie B. Funicelli and her husband, Glenn, and two nephews, Charles Wesley Bradshaw, Jr. and his wife, Audrey, and Rodney H. Bradshaw all of Suffolk; two step-grandchildren, Richard C. Edwards, Jr. of Richmond and Rinda L. Edwards of Alexandria and three step-great-grandchildren, Samantha, Mitchell and David Edwards of Richmond.

A memorial service to celebrate R.H.'s life will be held at 11AM Friday, September 26, 2014 at Wright Funeral Home. Burial will be private at Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and suggests memorials be made to The Alzheimer's Association, American Heart Association or High Street United Methodist Church. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
