Raymond L. "Pop" Whitby, 85, of Drewryville, passed away at his home on November 9, 2017. A lifelong resident of Drewryville, Raymond was a son of the late Archer Marvin and Mamie Jarratt Whitby. He was an Army veteran who loved to hunt and cook and was well known for his special BBQ sauce. Raymond was a founding member of the Drewryville Volunteer Fire Department and the Applewhite Swamp Hunt Club. He was a member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Shelby Edwards Whitby; daughter, Norma Jean Gibson and husband, David; son, Dennis R. Whitby and wife, Alice; three grandchildren, Jonathan K. "Buck" Whitby, Jennifer D. Gibson and Wyatt T. Whitby; four great-grandchildren, Kelly, Justin, JoAnna and Darby and a brother, Ned Willis Whitby. He was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers.
