Gates, NC – Donald Ray Johnson, 65, passed away November 23, 2020 in Vidant North Hospital in Roanoke Rapids.  Born in Franklin, VA, and a longtime resident of the Black Creek area of Zuni, VA, he was a son of the late Floyd Herbert Johnson and Phyllis Lorriane Vasser Johnson and was also predeceased by his brother William Herbert "Tom" Johnson.

Ray attended Windsor High School and was a former Sergeant for the Virginia Department of Corrections.  He retired as an independent truck driver.  Ray was a member of Burdette Baptist Church.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Terylee Robertson Johnson; a daughter, Stephanie Johnson of Zuni; a son, Sterling Johnson (Jamie) of Zuni; a sister, Faye J. Vassiliou (Petros) of Virginia Beach; a brother, Floyd Wayne Johnson (Teresa) of Suffolk; his step-father, Roy E. Council; Terylee's children, Christina Ann Billings (Michael) of Ashboro, Rob Watson (Maegan) of Gates, and Teresa Watson of Ashboro; and nine grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2PM Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Rob and Maegan Watson's residence, 303 Black Mingle Rd., Gates, NC.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trooper Robert Hill Toy Drive, c/o Bronco Federal Credit Union, 135 Stewart Drive, Franklin, VA 23851.
