Walters, VA- Pearl Armistead Simms, 66, passed away Monday, September 24, 2012 at Sentara Obici Hospital. Mrs. Simms was born in Southampton County, a daughter of the late Roscoe Wilson Simms and Bertha Mae Simms, and was predeceased by her brother, Randy Milton Simms. She retired from Verizon after 30 years of service, and was currently employed as an Insurance Clerk with Smithfield Foods. Pearl was a member of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church.
She is survived by her sister, Judy S. Turner and husband Roland of Windsor; her brother, Sidney R. Simms and wife Emily of Ivor; her nephews, Lance Simms and wife Amy of Franklin, Travis Butler and wife Tonya of Zuni, and David Turner of Windsor; her aunt and beloved friend, E.E. Berryman of Surry, and her beloved friend, Rose Ferguson of Walters, and her beloved pets, Candy and Gi Gi.
The funeral will be held at 11A.M. Friday, September 28, 2012 in Wright Funeral Home (Franklin) with the Rev. James H. Hyatt, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, from 6-8 PM at Wright Funeral Home (Franklin), and suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Isle of Wight Animal Shelter, 13100 Poorhouse Road, Isle of Wight, VA 23397. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
