Courtland - Nettie Davis "Nette" Woodard, 88, widow of James "Jimmy" Dudley Woodard, Jr., died July 2, 2010 in Columbia, SC. Nette was a native of Southampton County and a daughter of the late Franklin L. and Maude Barber Davis. Mrs. Woodard attended State Teachers College, now Longwood, and taught school in Southampton County for several years. She was also a former executive secretary of the Southampton County TB Association. A lifelong member of Courtland United Methodist Church, a member of its United Methodist Women and served for several years on the board of the Methodist Retirement Home, The Hermitage, in Richmond.
Survivors include her daughter, Diane E. Woodard, of Columbia, SC; two granddaughters, Elise M. Hagstette and husband, Todd, of Columbia, SC and Joanna M. Avant and husband, Phillip, of Richmond; three great-grandchildren, Davis Hagstette, Elise Avant and Brooks Avant; daughter-in-law, Tammy Woodard, of Hilton Head, SC; two sisters, Barber Williams of Richmond and Alice Kollinger of Easton, MD. She was predeceased by her son, James Dudley Woodard, III, a sister, Doris Ann Bankes and a brother, Franklin L. Davis, Jr.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 5, 2010 in Riverside Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Gordon and the Rev. James W. Browder, III, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to Courtland United Methodist Church. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, is assisting the family.
