Franklin – Mary Eustace Smith, 83, passed away September 13, 2022 in Wilmington, NC.  Born in Lost Creek, WV, she was a daughter of the late John Ross Eustace, Sr. and Mary Avis Eustace.  She was also predeceased by her husband, John Daniel Smith, Jr., a son, J. D. Smith, III, and a sister, Broaddus Ann Eustace Allen.

Mary grew up in Potomac Mills, Va, and was a graduate of Longwood University.  She was a long-time teacher of typing, business, and shorthand at Franklin High School and an avid Va Tech fan.  She was a member of Ephasus Christian Church in Foneswood, VA.

Mary enjoyed attending Black Creek Baptist Church and bible study at Franklin Congregational Christian Church.  She also enjoyed her time and friends while living at Bradley Creek in Wilmington.

Left to cherish her memory is a daughter, Dr. Kathy Smith and her husband, Mike Rhoades and their five children, her daughter-in-law, Yvette Smith, her grandson, J. Daniel Smith, IV, and her dog, Marco.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2PM Friday, September 16, 2022 in Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Hyatt officiating.  Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to Lower Cape Fear Life Care, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
