Mary Modlin Purvis died September 20, 2014 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Purvis was born October 5, 1921 in Kelford, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Luther Roland Modlin and Sallie Mae Jernigan Modlin.

Mrs. Purvis was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Kyle R. Purvis and a brother, Luther R. Modlin, Jr. She is survived by two sons, Kyle R. (Robbie) Purvis, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn of Franklin; Glenn L. Purvis and his wife, Carla of Eastville, Virginia; four grandchildren, Chris Purvis (Dawn), Amy Purvis (Scott), Charles Purvis (Jennifer) and Michael Purvis (Emily); and four great-grandchildren, Nadia Purvis, Megan Purvis, Hannah Purvis and Ava Purvis; and special daughter-in-law Martha Purvis James of the Eastern Shore, Virginia.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents at the Village at Woods Edge for their 14 years of care and friendship. Also, a special thanks to the staff at Southampton Memorial Hospital Skilled Care Unit and Dr. Michael Ponder for their compassionate care during Mrs. Purvis's final days.
