Franklin – Mary Spivey Carter, 95, widow of the late Richard Elmo "Pete" Carter passed away February 7, 2018 at the East Pavilion. Mary was a daughter of the late Joseph Hudson Spivey and Sally Bristow Spivey and was also predeceased by a sister and five brothers.

Mary was a graduate of Franklin High School, the Fannie Webb School of Business and was a member of Hunterdale Christian Church. Mary was a Deaconess for life at the Hunterdale Christian Church and served the Woman's Fellowship for many years. Mary also was an instrumental leader of the Franklin Christian Women's Club. An avid bridge player, Mary belonged to several bridge clubs and was a tenacious competitor.

Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Richard Emerson "Rick" Carter and his wife Janice of Charlottesville and Robert Edward "Rob" Carter and his wife Linda of Franklin, four grandchildren, Amy Pharr (Yorke) of Charlotte, NC ,Ted Carter (Rachel) of Louisville ,KY, Patricia Davis (Ben) of Courtland and Christy Fowler (Pete) of Newsoms, seven great grandchildren, Zachary and Louise Pharr, Grace , Ellen and Ben Davis and Addison and Alexia Fowler and many nieces and nephews .

A funeral will be held at 11 AM Saturday, February 10, 2018 in Hunterdale Christian Church with Wayne Blythe officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery. A reception will be held at Hunterdale Christian Church following the services. The family will receive friends at the home of Rob and Linda Carter on Country Club Rd., Franklin and suggests that memorial donations be made to Hunterdale Christian Church.
