Franklin – Marjorie Allen Lee, 88, passed away February 19, 2019 in East Pavilion in Franklin. Marjorie was born on December 22, 1930 in Richmond and spent most of her life there. She was a daughter of the late Luther Taylor Allen and Louise Dowdy Allen and was preceded in death by her sisters Elizabeth Allen Carter, June Allen Colgin, Celeste Allen Reidelbach; and brothers Stuart M. Allen and Richard "Dick" Allen, all of Richmond.
Marjorie graduated from John Marshall High School and immediately married her high school sweetheart, John Henry Lee, III. They were married for 69 years until his death on November 26, 2017. She and John lived in North Carolina from 1966 to 1977 while he worked for Gulf Oil Corporation.
Marjorie was multi-talented and always worked outside the home in many different capacities. She was a secretary/manager in various companies…at a real estate office, at a beauty school, at a college student union, and in an orthodontic office. She was a natural born artist with no formal training. Marjorie could paint in oils, water colors, and chalk pastels. She sold many of her paintings as well as custom-made scenes and even painted two wall murals. Marjorie loved to entertain and hosted many family gatherings. Her energy was boundless and she had a passion for decorating and yard work. She was a wonderful mother devoted to her son and daughter.
She is survived by her daughter Sandra Lee Cobb (Eric); son John Allen Lee (Adrian); grandson Taylor Allen Lee (Cayleigh); great-granddaughter Mara; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM Monday, February 25, 2019 in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with Rev. James W. Browder, III officiating. The family invites friends to a reception at 11 AM in The Back Porch and Grill at The Village at Woods Edge. Burial will follow the reception in Maury Cemetery, Richmond, VA. The family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Jude's Catholic Church, 1014 Clay Street, Franklin, VA 23851. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
