Marbara Woods Morris

Holland - Marbara Ellen Woods Morris, 68, departed this earth on August 25, 2026.

She is survived by her brother, W.S. Derrick Woods, III and his wife, Nancy, and their children, her nephew and niece, Travis Woods and Morgan Woods Fredlund, and many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry Morris, mother, Lisbeth Male Woods, her father, W.S.D. “Chip” Woods, JR, and her brother, Wilton Reid Woods.

Marbara grew up in Franklin, VA surrounded by the love of friends and family and all the qualities small town living encompasses. She attended VA Tech and graduated from Christopher Newport University. She wore many hats through her working years – from waiting tables in her early years in Nags Head, to working as a graphic designer at a newspaper in Maryland, to working as a furniture salesperson locally. In each of these work communities, she made lasting and cherished friendships.

She spent her early adult years living in Nags Head. She loved walking the beach (it cleared her head and soothed her soul) collecting shells and loved deep sea fishing – especially for tuna. She cooked the best fresh tuna steaks you have ever tasted. She was an excellent cook. Her family mourns the loss of never tasting another of her famous pound cakes. She followed in her mother's footsteps of being able to take the simple ingredients a pound cake requires and creating delectable perfection. For many years it was the Christmas gift requested and relished by her family.

Her heart rejoiced when she met her great love, Terry Morris. They shared their lives with zest – filled with family and friends, amazing dogs, fishing, travels, and lots of laughter and fun with doors wide open and generosity.

Marbara was a creative soul. Where others saw trash, she saw a piece of art to be revealed. To create was a need which satisfied that beautiful part of her.

She was a bright light to many. She had a BIG loving heart and would show up and help anyone who needed to overcome their struggle…whether it be medical, emotional, family, loss, money troubles …. all of it. She would be there. In her later years, she was the one who needed support and many friends were there for her. The family would like to especially thank Richard, Becky, Tommy, Kathleen, and Jamie for helping and supporting her.

Marbara loved dragonflies. Her home was filled with them. Dragonflies are symbolic of change, transformation, and adaptability. In retrospect, it is understandable – these are the same qualities she experienced in her life many times.

Her earthly, bright life has been extinguished and has now moved to the heavens. We, who had the blessing of it shining on us, are better for it. Rest peacefully, dear one. You will be forever in our hearts and missed tremendously.

Services will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Suffolk Fire and Rescue, 300 Kings Fork Rd., Suffolk, VA 23434. Give a note of thanks to Station 7 in memory of Marbara.
