Franklin – Lucille Cobb Cole, 87, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died peacefully at Lucy Corr Village in Chesterfield, Va. on May 8, 2009. She was preceeded in death by her beloved husband, Stephen Curtis Cole, Sr.; parents, Abner Thomas and Annie London Cobb; brothers, William Hardy and Bryant Cobb; and sister, Elizabeth Ellington.
The oldest of nine children, she was born in Reidsville, NC on Nov. 1. 1921. She loved and always showed great pride in her family and dearly loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother. Her love of family, strong work ethic, and unconditional love of children was also evident while she worked for 35 years in the Franklin City Public School System as an aide and school secretary in the elementary school. Everyone who knew her loved her, and she always found something good in everyone she knew.
She always lived her strong religious values and was a member of Franklin Congregational Christian Church. She always did her best and worked very hard, no matter the task. She really enjoyed her work at the polls on election days and with the commission identifying and naming roads for the updated 911 system. Her membership in the Home Demonstration Club meant her delicious homemade rolls and pies would be served at many Forks of the River Ruritan suppers. She loved working in her flower and vegetable garden, and was a master seamstress and cook.
Mrs. Cole is survived by a daughter, Doris Jo Cole of Richmond; a son and his wife, Steve and Chris Cole of Franklin; granddaughter Wendy and her husband, Troy Miller, of Glen Allen, Va. and their sons, Cole , Carter, and Trevor; grandson Troy Cole of Midlothian, Va and his daughters, Mikayla and Kendall; siblings living in North Carolina – James and his wife Willie Mae Cobb (Raleigh), Catherine and her husband, Lewis Gooch (Norlina), Mary McGhee (Oxford), Edith and her husband, Sam Owen (Raleigh), Nell and her husband, Joe Wiggins (Henderson) and Patricia Finch (Wilson); and lots and lots of nieces and nephews.
The family thanks those at Lucy Corr Village and Crater Hospice Care who gave such special and loving special care to her. Sweet and special was she, and she thought you were too.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 pm Monday in the Wright Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James H. Hyatt, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow at Southampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and suggests memorials be made to Franklin Congregational Christian Church, 412 N.
