Franklin – Louise Cook Hedgepeth, 95, passed away on January 5, 2024. She was born July 27, 1928 to the late James Jefferson Cook and Nora Lee Johnson Cook. She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, George H. "Top" Hedgepeth and her sister, Ruth Cook Blythe.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and sister, Louise is survived by her sons, Dennis W. Hedgepeth (Laurie), Larry G. Hedgepeth (Kathryn) and Brian K. Hedgepeth (Terri-Lynn); grandchildren Anne B. Hedgepeth, Amy H. Civetti (Mike), Michael B. Hedgepeth (Amanda) and Katherine E. Hedgepeth; and great grandchildren Camryn M. Hedgepeth, Elle M. Hedgepeth, Autumn J. Hedgepeth and Rollins N. Civetti.  She is also survived by her sister Jane C. Rountree and numerous nieces and nephews.

Louise, a native of Newsoms, graduated as valedictorian from Newsoms High School in 1945 and was a resident of Franklin for more than 70 years.

Louise had been a member of Franklin Baptist Church since 1954. At Franklin Baptist, she was a member of the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class and taught the 4-year-old children's Sunday school class for over 20 years.

Louise spent her married life caring for her family.  She spent countless hours attending ball games following the passions of her husband, sons and grandchildren. She was extremely talented and loved to do all kinds of handwork - knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch, sewing and making quilts. She belonged to the "Sew and Sew Quilters Club" with some of her closest friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1PM Wednesday, January 10, 2024 in Wright Funeral Home with Dr. Charles Qualls and Rev. Steve Gibson officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home and suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Franklin Baptist Church.  The family would like to thank all of the caregivers from The Village at Woods Edge, East Pavilion and Hospice of Virginia who worked so hard over the past five years helping Louise.
