Louise Jordan
Harrup
Oct 16, 1938 — Jul 24, 2025
Courtland
Courtland - Ruby Louise Jordan Harrup, 86, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
Louise was born in and remained a resident of Courtland, Virginia her entire life. She graduated from Southampton High School in 1956 and furthered her education at Longwood College then Pan American College and graduated in 1958. Louise was a dedicated employee of Union Camp Corporation working in the Industrial Relations Department for more than twenty-five years.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of over 66 years, John Robert Harrup; treasured daughters Sharon Harrup (Joyce Daniel) of Blackstone and Janice Tawney (William) of Salem; beloved grandchildren, Jordan Belle Tawney of Richmond and Will Tawney (fiancée Haylee Smith) of High Point, NC, sister and best friend, Beth Gray of Courtland. She is also survived by precious nieces and nephews: Debbie Dunn (Steve), Stephen Harrup (Heike), Joey Jordan, Michael Jordan, Carl Gray (Shari), Brian Harrup (Rhonda), and Mendy Gray - who was ready to help whenever needed; plus a host of great nieces and nephews.
Louise was predeceased by her parents Joe Thomas Jordan, Sr. and Ruby Lamb Jordan; a brother, Joe Jordan, Jr. and brother-in-law James Gray.
Louise was a lifelong member of Courtland Baptist Church and lived her faith daily. She was loved and known by many as Louise, Mama, Poodle, Granny, Mrs. Harrup, and Friend. Louise raised many children on the back row pew while their parents sang in the choir. She loved music but knew singing was not a talent with which she was blessed. She and John Robert passed that love of music to their daughters. Louise especially enjoyed gospel and bluegrass music with her beautiful smile and tapping feet.
She will be forever missed by many but we are confident Louise is with her Lord and Savior.
The family wants to thank Dr. Reid Harrison and the teams at Comfort Keepers, Southampton Home Health, and Gentiva Hospice for their tender guidance and support.
A celebration of Louise's impactful life will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 3:00pm at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, VA with Pastor Randy Wright and the Reverand Dr. Robert Carpenter officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home and suggests memorial donations be made to:
