Franklin – Lizzie Francis Spivey, 74, died March 18, 2007 at Obici Hospital in Suffolk. Born in North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Nathan and Ruby Banty Francis and widow of Edward F. "Doc" Spivey. She was retired from Leggett's Department Store and a member of Franklin Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Cathy Mendola and husband, Pete, of Alpharetta, Ga.; her son, Ed Spivey and wife, Susan, of Courtland; two sisters, Helen F. Gillette of Capron and Lucille F. Vann of Conway, NC.; one brother, Nathan Francis, Jr. of Conway, NC.; sister-in-law, Mary S. Carter of Franklin; daughter-in-law, Susan C. Little of Franklin; four grandchildren, Dixie Little Citty, Sheldon Dean Little, II, Erin Spivey, and Chelsea Mendola; and two great-grandchildren, Haylee Citty and Ava Little. Mrs. Spivey was predeceased by her first husband, Joseph Lee Little and a son, Sheldon D. Little.
The funeral will be conducted Tuesday at 11 am at Franklin Baptist Church with the Rev. Sharon James officiating. Burial will follow in Southampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 pm and suggest that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P. O. Box 1224, Franklin, Va. 23851.
