Newsoms – Lizzie Kitchen Darden, 78, passed away October 16, 2025 in her home with her family by her side.  Born and raised in Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late George and Ella Dunlow Kitchen.  She was also predeceased by her husband, Bernard Owen Darden, a sister, Louise Mears, and a brother, Johnny Lee Kitchen, Sr.

Lizzie was a retired Certified Nursing Assistant and a member of Jordan's Crossing.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Jennifer Lynn "Jenny" Darden (Robert) and Dorothy Rose Lee (Jason); two sisters, Gracie Kitchen Vargo and Ella Kitchen Grizzard; a grandson, Jason Owen Lee; and dear friends Mia and Ava.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2PM Monday, October 20, 2025 in Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Lewis officiating.  Burial will follow in Southampton Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to Jordan's Crossing.  The family would like to thank Cassandra for her love and devotion in taking care of Momma.
