Franklin – Linwood R. Slagle, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026. Born on February 4, 1941, Lynn lived a full life marked by devotion, hard work and an unwavering commitment to those he cherished.
A proud graduate of Greensville County High School, Lynn continued his education at Louisburg College and later Smithdeal-Massey Business College, where he earned his degree in accounting. His professional life was spent serving as an Outside Plant Engineer for Verizon, where he was respected for his dedication, knowledge, and contributions.
Lynn also served his country with honor in the Virginia National Guard from 1965 to 1971.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Judge L. Ralph and Mrs. Virginia Slagle.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 59 years, Barbara; his two sons, Rusty (Susan) and Scott (Amber); and his four grandchildren: Ella Slagle, Dane Slagle, Amanda Slayton (Michael), and Tori Hansen (Josiah). He is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Elowen Hansen, Camren Hansen, Victoria Mauger, and James Mauger, who brought him immense joy.
A Graveside Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 2PM Friday, May 15, 2026 in Poplar Spring Cemetery off of Homestead Rd. with Rev. James H. Hyatt, Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Franklin Congregational Christian Church.
