Franklin – Linwood Roy Drake, Jr., 87, retired owner of Drake Tire Company, passed away at his home on August 6, 2017. Born in Southampton County, he was a son of the late Linwood Roy Drake, Sr. and Nellie Vick Drake. He was an Army Veteran and a member of Franklin Presbyterian Church. He was predeceased by two brothers, Roy Drake and infant brother, Ralph Drake.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Powell Drake; two daughters, Sandra Drake Alston (Kevin) of Suffolk and Susan Drake March (Brian) of Carrsville; a son, Linwood Roy "Lindy" Drake, III (Lori) of Franklin; five grandchildren, Kristin Brisson (Michael), Courtney Berard (Eric), Kari Van Wassen (Matt), Ashley Heberling (Brett) and Hillary Brock (Jay); 10 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Kaleigh and Jodi Brisson, Noah Olson, Trevor and Taylor Berard, Sadie Van Wassen, Haley and Zoey Heberling, Drake Brock and his brother Roy's widow, Mary Drake.

The funeral service will be held at 2PM Thursday, August 10, 2017 in Courtland Baptist Church with the Rev. Lou Ventura and Rev. Warren Johnson officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Hollywood Cemetery, Newsoms. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 PM at Wright Funeral Home and suggests memorials be made to Franklin Presbyterian Church or Franklin Cooperative Ministries.
