Obituary

Newsoms – Linda Nurney Vick, the oldest child of William Henry and Helen Newsome Nurney, died October 8, 2024.  She was born on Nov 25, 1942 in Southampton County and lived here her entire life.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James C. Vick, her beloved siblings, Kay N Pope and William H. "Bill" Nurney, Jr., and her brother- in-law, James D. Pope, Jr.

Linda is survived by her loving daughter, Carla V. Kinyo and her husband Jeff, her much loved grandchildren, Mallory and Taylor Kinyo, nephews, James D. Pope, III, Joseph W. Pope, W. Henry Nurney, III and James R. Nurney , niece, Joanne N. Bryant and their families.

Linda graduated from Southampton High School, Class of 1961, attended Richmond Professional Institute, Chowan College and Paul D. Camp Community College.  Linda owned and operated Vick Farms and Boykins Manor Mobile Home Park Inc.

Linda was a very active member of her community.  She was a member of Newsoms United Methodist Church and served as a Trustee, President of the UMW, and on the Flower Committee.  In her later years, she attended and was active in Franklin Baptist Church.  She served on the Newsoms Town Council and was a member of the Pinecrest Garden Club.  She was instrumental in organizing the Citizens For Responsible Government and served on the executive committee.  Being an avid reader, Linda started the Newsoms Book Club and her favorite pastime was playing Bridge and traveling with her Bridge Club.

Most of all, Linda loved her family and was devoted to each and every member.  Her grandchildren and extended grandchildren brought her immense joy and they all called her "Party", which was fitting because she thoroughly enjoyed hosting parties.  Family gatherings were the highlight of her life.
