Franklin – Laverne James "Mac" McNamara, 90 passed away July 25, 2025 in the East Pavilion. Mac was a native of Athens, PA and was a son of the late Carl Edward McNamara and Emma Covey Williams. He was also predeceased by his wife, Margaret Blades McNamara and a brother, Bruce McNamara.
He was a Navy veteran and was retired as the Postmaster for the City of Franklin Post Office. He was a member of Somerton Methodist Church, Past President of the Hampton Roads Beagle Club, and a former member of the CB Hunt Club. He was a Mason. Mac was recently recognized as a "Point of Light" by Franklin city leadership for his extensive volunteer work.
Mac is survived by a daughter, Deborah Susan Waldroup and husband Mike of Chesapeake, two sons, Russell A. Davidson and wife Ruby of Sumter, S C, and Carl William McNamara and wife Carolyn of Chesapeake, five grandchildren, Jamie Andrews, Jason Davidson, Melissa Taylor, Chad Waldroup, Kelly McNamara, five great grandchildren, Shelby Waldroup, Cole Waldroup, Vanessa Davidson, Abigail Davidson, and Rylee Taylor.
A Celebration of Mac's Life will be held Wednesday July 30, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Somerton Methodist Church with Lay Pastor David W. McMillan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church and suggests memorial donations be made to Somerton Methodist Church, 8610 Whaleyville Blvd, Suffolk, VA 23438.
