Branchville – William Larry Cribb, 77, passed away Sunday September 29, 2019 at Courtland Health and Rehabilitation Center. Larry was born in Travelers Rest, SC and was a son of the late Rev. Luther Gerald Cribb, Sr. and Jessie Saunders Cribb and was also predeceased by a brother Luther Gerald Cribb, Jr.
He spent four years (1960-1964) in the United States Air Force. It was during this time that Larry felt God calling him into the Gospel Ministry. After leaving the Air Force he graduated from North Greenville Junior College in Tigerville, SC (1966), Carson –Newman College in Jefferson City, TN (1967) and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC (1971). He served as Pastor of Lasker Baptist Church, Lasker, NC (1969-1972), Black Creek Baptist Church, Franklin, VA (1972-1977). Larry spent 32 years working for Deerfield Correctional Center, Southampton Correctional Center and Southampton Detention Center as a counselor and probation officer (1978-2010). He served for 32 years as a bi vocational minister of Burdette Baptist Church in Burdette, VA. His last pastorate was Margarettsville Baptist Church in Margarettsville, NC. Larry was a 25 year member of the Virginia National Guard retiring with the rank of Major.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 50 years Mary Sue Cribb, a daughter Susan Marie Cribb Westbrook (David) of Oxford, NC, a son William Kevin Cribb (Kim) of Suffolk, a sister Sylvia C. Kirby of Boone, NC, two brothers, Leslie Jerome Cribb (Jan) of Anderson, SC and Don Michael Cribb (Ann) of Walterboro, SC, four grandchildren, Emily Chapel Westbrook, Mary Keats Westbrook, Liam Evin Cribb and Marlee Jo Carol Cribb.
A Funeral service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday October, 2, 2019 in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin with Pastor Bob Deacon officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Severn Cemetery, Severn NC. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to Boykins Volunteer Rescue Squad. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
